there are a lot of events happening in Singapore and sometimes, only a few people would be aware of it. it would be nice if we can have a consolidated list of all events happening in Singapore that includes details such as, location, date and time, reviews among others... these events may be tag according to category and people can subscribe to alerts to categories that they are interested in. with this data service provided, companies can save on their marketing budget (and saving the environment as well!) while having maximum exposure, people get prompted by events that they are interested in and would otherwise left un noticed so its a win win solution

Statistics Singapore (http://www.singstat.gov.sg) publishes the core data sets and analysis of economic and demographic measures in line with Government and international standards and requirements. In addition to informaing public policy, this information is widely used for private sector economic and business analysis and forecasting. Currently, this information is published in formats that are not readily machine-readable (PDF and an unstructured Excel), and they are also encumbered by copyright. Because of these limitations, I am sure the use and value derived from all the effort that Statistics Singapore put into the production of the classifications is significantly lower than it could be. I would suggest to Statistics Singapore that they would be better served by also publishing their key data sets in a machine-readable format, and removing the copyright encumberances (use a creative commons attribution license instead). As we are seeing with data.gov in the US, this information would provide significant impetus to private sector innovation in the use, reuse and analysis of the core data sets. In particular, it would allow interested parties to drive analytical applications that serve particular niche business interests that one would never expect Statistics Singapore themselves to have as a priority.

GeBIZ is the central clearing house for information concerning goverment tenders, and is a vital service for the many businesses that serve the public sector. Although the information is "public", the website facilities are rudimentary, and it is unlikely and unreasonable to expect that GeBIZ can serve every niche need. My personal experience has been that significant time is wasted by every potential tender respondee in constantly checking and rechecking the GeBIZ site for the latest tender listing or award information. Rather than ask/expect GeBIZ to "fix it", a much more productive apporach - and one that could stimulate innovations we couldn't even image - would be for GeBIZ to make a public feed of tender listings, notices and awards (unencumbered by usage restrictions). This would allow interested parties to consume/mashup and provide value added services such as: - realtime alerts (via twitter, email, mobile) - smarter data mining and filtering for opportunity discovery and trend analysis
